Having spent almost two decades in the news industry offered incredible opportunities for creating picture essays. This genre was once the antidote for television and gave many living rooms a window on the world - LIFE magazine made it famous by assigning people like W. Eugene Smith who in turn spent years on some assignments, creating some of the most memorable images.
Walking the streets of any city on the planet with a camera is paradise. Not knowing what awaits you is part of the thrill. Bill Brandt, British photographer once said that the photographer has to remain like a traveler or a child arriving at the destination as if for the very first time.
